Flexible Lightbox

Wordpress has a simple way to handle images on your blogs: you can upload, organize and insert images on your post with just 2 or 3 clicks. The application also creates thumbnails and medium sizes images automatically and allows you to insert them as a simple gallery into your posts and pages.

Integrate into your front-end nice javascript effects like Thickbox, Lightbox, Slimbox , Milkbox, Lightview is a plus, but would be better if you don’t need to touch the html code for it. That’s why the CMS technology exists.

After developing the plugin Wp ThickBox Integration,  I decided to extend this features to “Lightbox” a cool jquery plugin to overlay images on the current page. In this case you can decide in the  admin “images setting panel” if you want to “Open your images using Lightbox”.

Single Image Example

Installation

1. Upload ‘flexible lightbox’ folder to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
3. And that’s it.

Screenshots

In this case I’m using the native gallery tag “gallery columns=2″ with the default styles.

    hah, i just found the problem. maybe it’s the same for you other guys who can’t get it to work:
    i’m using a twitter jquery integration on my blog. removing the library-script from the header makes the plugin work:

    Now my twitter integration obviously doesn’t work anymore, but the lightbox does. hah ;-)

    hi alain,

    thanks for the great plugin. i have the same problem as Legacyblade – i’m using a custom theme (selfmade) and the lightbox won’t open up. instead, the image is opened in a browser window. i know this could be due to a ton of issues, but do you maybe have any suggestions on how to find the error? plugin works on classic theme btw.

    thanks!

    Thanks for this great plugin.
    I have been able to publish it and to change something of the style.Some things I do not understand like changing them correctly.
    I have changed in “jquery.lightbox-0.5.js” the value of “textImage” and “txtOf” by another language (Spanish) but not with himself that appear translated. That I need to do? I want to change “Image x of x” by “Imagen x de x”.
    Gracias.

    Hi
    I’m really hoping to get this plugin working, since it seems perfect for what I’m trying to do — I think I’m having the same problems as rosenkrieger — I click open using lightbox — it adds a class=”lightbox” — and then nothing happens. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

    Fixed in the new version.

    Just For info:

    When you got your wordpress in a subomain, and the worpdress address in the root, the plugin does not take it in consideration, so it can’ t call the js.

    Maybe something wrong in my installation.
    Whatever i fixed it by going at the end of flexible-lightbox.php” and changing the call to “get_bloginfo(’wpurl’).”

    Hello. I love how easy the plugin is to use. However, I have run into a problem. The custom theme I’ve installed (http://www.infocreek.com/webdesign/aspire.html) doesn’t seem to work properly with it. It works just fine on word press’ default theme, but when I click on an image using the custom theme it simply navigates the browser to the image). If anyone has some ideas on how to fix this issue, that’d be great :D

    First, this is a GREAT plug-in and will donate once the below questions help complete my gallery. Though (maybe) basic, I’ll need some comprehensive instructions. Thanks!

    1. Have 2 spaces between each picture in the gallery
    2. Have a 1 pixel border around each picture in the gallery
    3. Remove the title when the lightbox opens up after clicking a picture

  27. October 14th, 2009 at 07:50

    Do you think Lightbox will have the possibility in the near future to work with images hosted at a 3th party website like photobucket? Hosting all images i use on my website is very expensive in used bandwidth. On photobucket i can host both a large version of an image and a smaller, thumbnail size version… I really hope this will be possible in the near future!

    Oh, I solved this by adding one more selector funftion jQuery(’a.lightbox’).lightBox in flexible-lightbox/js/lightbox_call.js file, just by copying that function call with contents and renaming just jQuery(’a.lightbox’).lightBox to jQuery(’a.lightboxNext’).lightBox . And in nextGen settings, under effects tab I added “custom” and typed class=”lightboxNext”.

    Hope this will help someone else.

    Thanks for plunin, I like options for adding lightbox efect in image addition.

    It shows not only arcticle images, it includes sidebar images (from nextgen plugin sidebar widget) in the same set too. Would be fine, if it would be possible to seperate those in two sets – article images and sidebar images.

    Hi

    I am using your lightbox on 2.8.4 Wordpress and your plugin lightbox 1.02,
    well it is wired..sometimes it works and the light box pops up, but sometimes it does not work,
    it is the same on this site..sometime the image do what it should do and sometimes it just opens the image in another window, this is very annoying.

    Any idea why that is? Is your plugin not compatible, or not working properly?

    This is just the value of the “title” attribute in the html image link inserted. you can delete it on your html, do not include title to your image when you insert it or edit the plugin to eliminate it for all the images.

    Hi Alain,
    thank you for simple and pretty working plugin. I think I don´t need anything more, I have rebuild several posts and published. But there is a bug maybe that makes me not able to use it:-( and that´s really pity. When I execute some image from the row (gallery) it has a title under picture, but the second one and the others no – suddenly the white part with text and close button is missing forever. I use WP 2.8.4 and your plugin is the only one activated.

    @georage
    You can try this:
    - Go to the jquery lightbox plugin page and download the plugin. http://leandrovieira.com/projects/jquery/lightbox/

    - Inside of the package you will find /js/jquery.lightbox-0.5.js open it and try to find something like: $(’body’).append(.
    - This line contain the html that is include on the page when you open an image.
    - After < - div id="lightbox-container-image-box" -> you can insert something like:
    < -div style="background-color: white; padding-top: 10px; height: 20px;"->your text< -/div->
    - Copy all the content of this file and replace the content of the /plugins/flexible-lightbox/js/jquery.lightbox-0.5.pack.js.

    Thanks for your donation.

    Hi there,

    I have succesfully made Flexible Lightbox work on several sites, but suddenly I can’t make it work on one of my sites. When I upload an image, I choose “Open using LightBox”, and the class lighbox is added to the link around the image. However, when I click the image, it just opens as it would without the plugin. @georage
    You can try putting your individual image inside a div with class “gallery”. At this way the image will be included in the gallery round.

    Something like:

    <  div class="gallery"  >

    <  a href="image url"  > <   img src="thumbnail url"/ ><  /a >

    <  /div >

  51. August 14th, 2009 at 12:50

    Is there any way to link an image to a gallery? My template has one photo embedded in a story, and the gallery at the bottom of the story. I would like the reader to be able to click the image embedded in the story and load the gallery instead of merely enlarging the single image.

    Am having a problem with “lightbox-image-details-currentNumber” display.

    During the creation of a page, I uploaded 7 images, and then deleted 3. There are now only 4 images on the page, and the other 3 images have also been deleted from the Media Gallery.

    However, when the lightbox for the page is invoked, it shows all 7 images. This is visible to all users, and does not have to do with the Browser Cache.

    How can I clear the deleted images so they don’t display in the Lightbox?

    Hi there, I’m using Lightbox, thanks for developing it.
    With WP 2.7.1. I have noticed a strange behaviour:
    - when inserting an image for the first time in a post, the WP image dialog box shows the radio buttons “use lightbox to open…yes/no”.
    - when MODIFYING image attributes, the lightbox options are missing.
    How is that?

    Another question:
    Could it be possible to have a custom lightbox version that works in this way:
    - on mouse over, zoom the image
    - on mouse not over, back to thumb
    - on mouse click, go to URL (post, image full screen, you name it) if any

    @ncj
    I resolved this myself by putting sizing into the stylesheet

    I have one more question? How do you control the size of the actual image in when I use wordpress

    Scenario, a non web person uploads an image in add media, Wordpress “crunches it” and has 3 versions. When I select the image, it chooses the largest version instead of the medium version. How do I change that
    See http://www.pleasantstreetchurch.org/wordpress/?page_id=165 click on the church sign

    I would like the thumbnail to be sized very small and then once its opened, I would like it to be larger. How would I do that?

    @Morten
    You just need to include the class=”lightbox” in your links. Something like:

    a href=”your image url” title=”the title” class=”lightbox”

    Thanks,

    Hi

    Works great for me in 2.7.1 – but – is it possible to get it to work on featured images as well? You know – images that are not inserted via the Insert image, but where you make a custom field called image and then copy the URL into another field? Is it possible and if yes – how? Right now it just opens in a new window, wich looks a bit old-fashioned.

    :)

    @Emil
    Hi Emil, the plugin works for all the attached images, you don’t need to upload them again, just need to go into your images setting, define the “Link Url” and insert the image on the post. Or include the class “lightbox” in the link of the image if you are HTML familar.

    Thanks,
    Alain

    Hi! Everything works now.

    Two questions:
    1. Is there any way to use the plugin on older images? Or do I have to upload them again?
    2. A watermark would be nice – any ideas how to implement this – separate plugin, custom php etc?

    Thanks, my site looks much nicer now!

    Hey love this plugin but it seems to mess up my theme, I keep returning this error

    Error: element.style is undefined
    Source File: http://www.jyoungest1.com/wp-content/themes/jyoungest1/js/combo.js
    Line: 13

    but when I disable it or any lightbox it works fine. I am using the foilage-mod theme from this link http://5thirtyone.com/wordpress-foliage-mod-theme.

    I am a animator not a programmer :( any help would rock guys.

    @Artur
    For the single post the plugin open all the link/images that have the lightbox class included. Its because the way that the jquery lightbox plugin works:

    Hi, I have a problem with Flexible Lightbox. Why is it opens all files on the page and not only in the article? For example all foto on the main page. http://bmwzoom.ru/

    It doesn’t for me either. Is there any other plugin which could interfere such as NextGen Gallery?
    (Tried to deactivate it – no success. I’d prefer not to have to uninstall it just for testing…)

    I’m in 2.7.1

    @rosenkrieger
    I tested it until the 2.7 version.
    Maybe there is some interaction with other plugin,
    Do you have javascript errors?
    Send me the URL, if you want, to see what is wrong on the front-end.

    Thanks,
    Alain

    Thank you for the plugin, but for some reason it won’t work for me :-(

    1. I have WP 2.7.1
    2. I installed your plugin
    3. It shows up when entering a new article
    4. If I look into the HTML it does not say “lightbox” anywhere eventhough I said “Open in Lightbox Yes”
    5. When I manually change the HTML code class to “lightbox” it also does nothing at all

    What am I doing wrong?!

    Best regards
